The Ogbochure Eleme Social Club on Sunday, January 4, 2025, unveiled its 2025 community project, a landmark signage tagged “Welcome to Ogale,” in Ogale, Eleme Local Government Area of Rivers State, reaffirming the town’s historic and cultural status within Eleme land.

The project was unveiled by the Special Guest of Honour, Chief Mrs. Rose Osaro Igwe, described by members as a respected mother figure in the society. The ceremony attracted club members, community stakeholders, and well-wishers who gathered to witness what was described as more than a physical structure, but a cultural statement.

Speaking at the unveiling, the President of Ogbochure Eleme, Evang. Ngajo Sunday Oyor, traced the roots of the club to their formative years as pupils of State Primary School, Ogale. He explained that many years after leaving primary school, members reunited under the Ogbochure Eleme umbrella, convinced that their early bond was divinely orchestrated.

“Our motto is United to Excel,” Oyor said. “For over 25 years and counting, we have remained united, carrying out meaningful activities in harmony.”

He noted that the choice of the signage project was deliberate, given Ogale’s historical identity as “Osaro Ebo Eta Eleme,” meaning the head-town or first son of Eleme.

“This is not just an ordinary signage,” he emphasized. “Though made of concrete and steel, it symbolises the place of Ogale in Eleme. It reminds Ogale sons and daughters to be worthy ambassadors wherever they go, and it tells all who enter Ogale that this is a peculiar and dignified land.”

Unveiling the project, Chief Mrs. Rose Osaro Igwe described the signage as a “symbol of light” for Ogale community, adding that the initiative was divinely inspired.

“This is surely a directive from God to Ogbochure Eleme,” she said. “It affirms Ogale as the Osaro Ebo Eta of Eleme. No community in Eleme will contest that cultural position. Ogale remains a blessed land.”

She commended members of the club for their vision and commitment to promoting unity and cultural consciousness.

The unveiling ceremony followed a series of activities by the club to mark the New Year. On Saturday, January 3, Ogbochure Eleme held its annual thanksgiving service at the Seventh Day Adventist Church, Mbumaeta, Ogale. After Sunday’s unveiling, members proceeded to J-Merries Guest House for their New Year dinner, rounding off the celebration in an atmosphere of fellowship and gratitude.

The 2025 project adds to Ogbochure Eleme’s long record of community-oriented initiatives, reinforcing its role as a social and cultural force in Ogale and the wider Eleme area.
