Rivers ALGON Backs Tinubu for Second Term

THE BIG PICTURE

In a momentous show of unity and political conviction, the 23 local government areas in Rivers State have thrown their collective weight behind President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, endorsing him for the 2027 presidential election.

The endorsement, declared during a fully attended ALGON Rivers meeting in Obio/Akpor LGA, signals not just political loyalty, but gratitude for what the leaders describe as “unprecedented federal goodwill” towards the state.

THE VOTE THAT SEALED THE DEAL

The motion, moved by Dr. Chidi Julius Lloyd of Emohua LGA and seconded by Dr. Thomas Bariere of Khana LGA, sailed through with a unanimous voice vote.

ALGON Chairman and Port Harcourt City Mayor, Sir Allwell Ihunda, presided over the session, emphasizing that the decision reflects the renewed confidence of Rivers people in Tinubu’s leadership.

“This endorsement is a vote of appreciation and a call for continuity,” Ihunda noted.

FEDERAL APPOINTMENTS: RIVERS TAKES THE FRONT SEAT

ALGON highlighted several strategic federal appointments secured under Tinubu’s administration, appointments that have placed Rivers sons and daughters at the heart of national governance.

Key Appointments Include:

  • Barr. Nyesom Wike — Minister, Federal Capital Territory
  • Hon. Boma Iyaye — Executive Director (Finance), NDDC
  • Dr. George-Kelly Alabo — DG, Border Communities Development Agency
  • Hon. Flag Amachree — Director of Energy, Office of the NSA
  • Chief Tony Okocha — Rivers Rep, NDDC Board
  • Hon. Chukwuemeka Aaron — Federal Character Commission
  • OCJ Okocha, OFR, SAN — Ambassador-designate

These appointments, according to ALGON, have opened the doors of opportunity, influence and development for Rivers State.

SPOTLIGHT ON ELEME: A CASE STUDY IN FEDERAL IMPACT

One of the outstanding beneficiaries of the Tinubu-led administration is Eleme LGA.

ALGON Secretary and Eleme Chairman, Chief Hon. Obarilormate Ollor, highlighted the President’s direct interventions:

Eleme Sons Appointed:

  • Hon. Marcus Nle Ejii — Executive Director (Works & Projects), South South Development Commission
  • Hon. Fred Mbo Mbo Igwe — Member, HYPREP Board

Major Federal Projects in Eleme:

  • Reconstruction of the Eleme axis of the East–West Road
  • Planned dredging & modernisation of:
    • Rivers Port
    • Onne Port
    • Calabar Port

After years of agitation and neglect, Eleme leaders say these interventions represent hope restored.

“The East–West Road is no longer a forgotten promise—work is happening,” Ollor affirmed.

NATIONAL HEALING: THE KEN SARO-WIWA PARDON

ALGON also praised President Tinubu for granting a posthumous presidential pardon to late Ogoni activist Ken Saro-Wiwa and others.

The gesture was described as a “historic step toward reconciliation” in the Niger Delta, especially when combined with the establishment of the University of Environment.

SECURITY CHALLENGES: WHY CONTINUITY MATTERS

Despite ongoing national security concerns, Rivers ALGON leaders say the President has shown a willingness to confront the issues head-on through:

  • Renewed anti-kidnapping operations
  • Intelligence overhaul
  • Strengthening of counter-terrorism units
  • Reorganization of military command structures

Across the LGAs, the sentiment is clear:
Nigeria is not where it should be, but it is moving in the right direction.

LOOKING TO 2027: A UNITED FRONT

With a single voice, ALGON Rivers adopted President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as its preferred candidate for the 2027 presidential elections.

This endorsement, driven by gratitude, strategic gains and hope, marks a defining moment in Rivers State’s evolving political landscape.
